Service · Export licences
The right licence, obtained and used correctly.
A licence is more than a permit. It comes with conditions, limits, reporting duties and an expiry date, and most enforcement cases involve licences that existed but were used wrongly.
In two lines
We find the authorisation that already covers you or apply for the one you need, in the UK, Belgium, the rest of the EU and the US; then we help you use it correctly and keep it in good standing, with a single licence register.
1. Find the right authorisation
Before applying for anything, we check whether you already have, or can use, an authorisation that covers the export:
- UK: open general export licences (OGELs), and standard or open individual licences (SIELs and OIELs).
- EU: Union general export authorisations (such as EU001 for exports to the UK, US, Japan and other partner countries), national general authorisations, and individual or global licences.
- US: EAR licence exceptions and BIS licences for US-controlled items and re-exports; ITAR licences and agreements for defence articles and services.
General and open authorisations are faster, but they come with conditions: registration, excluded items and destinations, and reporting. We confirm that you meet them before you rely on them.
2. Apply
Where an individual or global licence is needed, we prepare and manage the application with the competent authority: the Export Control Joint Unit in the UK; the regional licensing services of Flanders, Wallonia or Brussels-Capital in Belgium; the national authority in other EU member states; BIS for EAR items and DDTC for ITAR items and agreements in the US. That covers the technical description and classification, end-user certificates and end-use statements, supporting documents, answers to authority questions, and follow-up through to decision. If a licence is refused or restricted, we advise on the options.
3. Use it correctly
- Check each shipment against the licence before it goes.
- Track quantities and values used against each licence.
- Meet the conditions: end-user undertakings, re-export restrictions, marking or notification requirements.
- Submit the reports that general and open authorisations require.
- Keep the records authorities expect to see.
4. Keep your licences in good standing
- Licence register. One register of all your authorisations: scope, conditions, remaining quantity or value, expiry dates. Delivered in a format you can use, or set up in your existing compliance software.
- Renewals and amendments. We flag licences approaching expiry and handle renewals and amendments when a customer, product or destination changes.
- Audit readiness. Authorities audit licence holders, particularly users of open licences. We review your use in advance and help you through the visit.
- Internal compliance programme. Global licences in the EU require one, and authorities expect one from regular exporters.
